World fuel ethanol output rose by 7.5% in 2014 to reach 93.2 bln litres, driven by a 3.8 bln litres increase in the US and a 1 bln litre increase in Brazil. In Europe, fuel ethanol production in the EU-28 bloc also rose due to the commissioning of new plants. In Asia, output grew on the back of higher volumes offered to the oil majors in India and growing production in Thailand. Brazil and the US together accounted for 86% of the world’s total fuel ethanol output in 2014.

World total ethanol output (fuel and non-fuel) rose by 5.8% in 2014 to reach 112 billion litres, driven by US production which increased by 7.5%, this being the biggest rise of 2014. Among the top 10 producing countries, India's output has been the only one to decrease, yet marginally.
